Born and raised in Illinois, James Turek has had a lifelong passion for technology and storytelling, leading him to California where he received his BA in Film Studies from UC Santa Barbara. Shortly thereafter, he moved to Los Angeles and interned with the production department at Zoic Studios where he was brought on board as visual effects coordinator for Joss Whedon’s feature debut Serenity.
With eight years at Zoic Studios, James was charged with managing their production facility branch and accumulated thousands of hours of on-set experience as producer and production manager for Zoic’s film, television, and advertising clients. His work on CSI: Crime Scene Investigation was among those recognized as contributing to the company’s 2010 Emmy® Award for Outstanding Visual Effects for a Series.
An avid comic book fan, James was ecstatic to be offered a contract with Marvel Studios in 2012 as stereo coordinator. There he earned screen credits for both Iron Man 3 and Thor: The Dark World and gained invaluable mentorship and experience in post-production delivery and client relationships from their amazing team.
Over the past several years, James has been freelance producing. In Chicago his talent was sought by Leviathan where he utilized years of experience to produce compelling, cutting-edge vfx, experiential design, and advertising projects for the young and gifted studio.
James was recently contracted by Netflix as a visual effects coordinator for the Sense8 series finale film Amor Vincit Omnia. Working directly with Lana Wachowski and her team has been a highlight in his career.
